A2 Music video Analysis other A2 coursework
This is an example of Run the world by Beyonce that i found on youtube, the song is original about girls being able to rule the world and have the ability and power to do what they want. The setting is very different from the original but with some similar aspects of group dancers.
The girls in the video wear very limited clothing to show voyeurism meaning provocativeness towards the audience. There are many close ups of the main character a blonde girl, this shows the engagement towards the camera of 'direct address' where the performer is engaging to the audience as if they're talking to them. There are also performance shots of the group dancing, such as panning and long shots. In this video it shows a high effort in group commitment of a pop genre kind of music. The music video has high flashing lights and flash of images, showing the representation of a pop genre.
The colour and contrast of their outfits show so much power, as the black can represent how strong they are , and in feministic reasons ot also shows that they are powerful. The use of few different locations are also very ideal, especially in an isolated field with greenery and nature around them can represent the opposite of what they are trying to portray, that women aren't all gentle and calm.
The tunnel scene in the music video shows that the group of girls are in a high ground and 'owning' the area, because girls usually are not allow to portray themselves like that.
2nd example
This is Hero by Foo Fighter originally, this video was made by students at York college, we have a similar idea of doing a split screen type affect on our video, showing the individual characters or in the video the actual band members. They have many long shots of the characters showing who they are, and the representation of heros being good looking and powerful. This shot shows the authoritative of each character.
At the beginning where they flashed each character in the video's names showed a powerful rock style of music of flashing up characters. It is very useful that they used a comic frame in their music video as if they are creating a story and following up a typical hero in a comic to create a affect.
The music is quite fast in general, their were some fast and slow bits in the music video especially the chasing scene, whilst chasing the villain, it also followed up with a comic affect again portraying a hero and villain story.
There are some slow motion bits where the music had dropped into a lower key to create an effective movement to the heros.
