Digipak Artist Examples
I have made a comparison of 3 different artist digipaks.
Artist/bands such as Rihanna, Tame Impala and Green day, from different genres, and a small description about the digipak scheme itself, from the use of colour.
All these genres of music have a appealed to an audience, making people want to buy music albums for the novelty in having a 'cool' album cover.
Student Examples of DIGIPAKS
This is a student version that i found as an example to what our group digipak would similarly look like. It would include 6 panels with images, lyrics, front and pack panels including the band images and a small bio about our band.
In this Digipak it involves the artist's genre a lot with a mixture of indie rock and vintage art designs. There are only 2/3 colour schemes in this image keeping it simple and plain. it catches the audience eye if people are into the calming music of the indie rock genre.
This is another example of a student example, they were making the green day cover album , and they have used smart colour schemes that can make the album cover stand out. They have really thought about the shaping and position of the digipak placing the back covers upside down. They have a very interesting front cover, similar and relating to the artist's and bands like 'The XX' It's really similar to an actual green day album itself, as green day usually uses the colours of green and black. They have taken that idea onboard and put an idea of their own in by adding red in it as well.

DigiPak Analysis Goldfrapp
I have chosen Goldfrapp, Seventh Tree for my analysis, I thought this unique album cover and digipak was very appealing to the indie, pop genre of music lovers.
Inside the pak it is place as a mini memorable treasury box, including a hand written mini book of the lyrics in the album with small drawn images on the side, this shows a unique part of the independent genre of music, though they are electronic folk, it comes under the independent style of music.
A small case with an image of the lead singer Alison Goldfrapp walking through the meadow, that hold the actual CD in the case. The artist has a paper hat on her head, wearing a old style chiffon blouse.
There are also posters and postcard inside the cover, it shows a unique style of proving the the audience that they're not just buying an album that contains a CD but a lot about the artist and band members, to show that the audience are buying their money's worth.
Inside the case there is also a very unique poster of Alison Goldfrapp herself, this would be ideal to the audience who would want to stick up the posters in their bedroom or keep it as a novelty effect that they have a poster of Alison Goldfrapp. It is roughly an A4 size poster so it is very ideal an fits in the case very well. The artist and the band itself, is very into nature, so the idea of birds such as owls tend to pop up a lot in the album cover and one of the songs on that album 'caravan girl' is has a very poetic feel of freedom to the song, creating a relation to many people into indie music, and the sense of freedom.
In the album case they also have a short film explaining their target audience and what they're about, and the kind of music they like to present to their fans. They've always got something new to show up and bring out, this way it doesn't make their fans bored, thinking they're always doing the same thing.
In the Seventh Tree album, it is very thematic, it is very specific and it is very much about nature.
In the video to 'Caravan Girl' it was a sense of freedom with a girl on a longboard skateboard, dressing very casual, in shorts, flannel shirt and trainers. That she can do anything she wants, and she is traveling anywhere she wants. It is very much about independency and the happiness of being independent, that can relate to many people that listen to Goldfrapp.
This is the back of the cover, it has 10 songs on it, the album cover itself is made out of canvas and cardboard, and the print has been done on canvas, a very natural way to present a product, especially most of the time album covers are made out of hard plastic. Using canvas shows that it is very eco friendly and presents the independent/different feel to a normal band. 'A&E' one of the songs on the album is very different from 'Caravan Girl' Alison Goldfrapp is set in the woods laying down on the leaves, the dancers pop up as walking leaves and bushes, while she is wearing a chiffon dress, i found it fascinating because this whole album really comes under nature, and in 'A&E' it really represented a lot of the naturalistic factors.

What is a DigPak?
A DigiPak is a album cover with a unique design that relates to what the band is about and how the band wants to represented. The DigiPak includes a CD to which customers are are wanting to listen to, but with the unique design it gives customers an idea of what the band is about.
Usually in a Digipak a typical example it would have lyrics of the songs, about artist and art. Depending on the CD and artist it can spread out as far as 6 panels with artist's pictures of the artist, a band/group etc...
